Yeah I started off with 6 so I dropped Medina, then I reconsidered and also dropped Owen Wright. I'd have to really think about losing Kelly but this is snapper and he can rip the nerves out of the young guys here. I don't think Parko will have the fight he did last year. Jon Jon is going to come out fighting. Sebas and Nat young will be fighting for rookie titles this year IMO.

Nice line up The Spade, I looked at similar. It's a good time to spend less watch the shift in rankings after the first round and then pick up the heros. Snapper is so mechanical that it does come down to ability to succeed, the young guns have the vitality to take it out but local knowledge tends to come through. Kelly's pretty much a local there now.

So was Wright, but against the top ten its a higher level again. You'll need to be consistent with 16 plus combos to make the final. Ricardo would have given it a good nudge.

I banked on medina too as he has his comp head screwed firmly on. May regret it but his backhand is pretty good. Yeah would love to see ricardo go one on one with the top guys at snapper. Pretty retarded he doesnt have a major sponsor

Two train of thoughts from someone who sucks at this game.
One try to pick the best team for the whole season and don't change them.
Two. Pick 8 surfers at low prices, try and pick cheap surfers that can perform at snapper. Then hope there values increase and sell them for a profit. Then pick up.cheap surfers who can perform at bells
All the time you still need winners to earn points. That's my take

I'll watch the tour (especially wildcard events) but not because I'm keen on predicting winners. IMO there's only a handful of exciting surfers in it - take mick fanning. Great comp surfer but I have never seen the guy do anything of Interest - he bores me to sh1t
Job, Dane Reynolds, owen wright, kerr, john John, Kelly, parko for style and not a lot else
The wildcards are what make some of the events particularly pipe and teahupoo. That Chilean dude at Arica was awesome a few years back too

He has a rather jerky style, particularly his top turns. Also in the vid you mostly only get to see the moves he makes. It'd be interesting to see how many times he falls off.
As someone else has mentioned when the pressure's on in a comp he usually can't seem to stick his moves. People like Slater, Parko, John-John and Fanning generally handle the pressure and stick their moves at critical times.
I'd like to be proven wrong as Dane is probably the most cutting edge surfer on the planet at then moment, however I don't reckon he'll do well in comps in the near future.

That's a good point but ill take it on a different angle. I know a photog who will delete all photos of guys if they pull the sickest move but don't land it. Therefore they can't claim throwing crap. I only mention this as the guy who caught the Oakley big wave went straight then to the bottom and jumped off, no turns. I'm not debating his courage or balls but really he didn't ride it out, this is the part of big wave rising I'm hating. Only claim it if you rid wit out. Same as barrels you can't claim it if you don't make it.

I dont care if Dane does comps or not, or the percentage of moves he actually makes...as long as he's making sick edits like Roy... Im happy.
Actually I can only stomach watching about a 40% of the guys on tour anyway...
alot of the youth are all about the throw away move these days it seems. A few Shore groms have been coming out lately not terrible surfers but all going for these crazy out of control turn/airs never seen any of them land one or anything else but its all they seem to try, not a fan of that style of surfing. An old guy once told me when i first started that a good turn only counts if you stick the last one on the wave too.
