Having said that petty sad effort form the south island. Even my one horse home town pumped out a division winner.

The flashy Bro hand-shakes at the start of heat would have put the lads off their game. Also girls in Bikinis on the beach![]()

Haha yeah girls in those pritty togs, That would be the job over for us good islanders.
Gissy surfers scored a few wins huh
^6 of the 10.
Gissy certainly over represented in the sharp end of the log.
Question is why? Availability/access to good waves? Club culture in the region? Coaching?
Very interesting.

I think Gizzy has Insular community all surf and push each other, similar to the close eye crew from Kiaks. Other regions have smaller groups that don’t always surf the same places so less competitiveness in the water.
Culture, Lots of second and third generation surfers, Maz and Jays dad was in the finals of older guys, sster xnz team. Cory Hutchings boy, Proctors there are plenty of others.

Nuttin beta than sinking your teeth into a fat juicy rump
and cause gizzy has good surf whenever it goes offshore pretty much everywhere. the town beach is quite mediocre but its still has consistent sick banks. Auckland and taras are always waiting for an offshore and the NE coast is inconsistant. down south is too cold or too big or onshore or too small.

No merely an observation that you will be able to compete in the over 40 section when you have your birthday later in the year.
Geez didn't realise you were so sensitive

It was the almighty sarcasm implied by using "aye" Utah...
Actually who started using the "aye" first... I'd guess BC?

Spot on there Drake ...tahat and they have been miles ahead of the rest of NZ for the past 15+ years in terms of the whole comp scene...they've always had a lot more support from local sponsors getting behind the up and coming groms.....I remember back when I was competing in the Schoolastics regionals we (far north crew)did a trip there and got schooled hard. They just have that whole comp thing down and have done for a long time, they had the support we didn't along with 90% of NZ back then.....that was over 15 years ago...not whinging about it....it's just how it was.....but your right that just comes about from how insular and supportive the surf community is there.....blah blah blah....woffling on now.....you get my point though
saw a hispter biking on the footpath friday night. Told the thick rimmed glasses wearing, speedie riding, skinny jeaned cnut to gett off the footpath
he said 'p!ss off', then Mrs Chux went evil on him......he sped away with his single gear ![]()

Вы гребаном отсталых влагалища
plus gizzy is one of the most consistet spots for swell, Gets everything from north/northeast to south. Has a range of shapely banks which can handle up to 6ft and a stack of spots up and down the coast on bigger swells. Predominant wind is NW offshore and GBC was the first club in NZ to really get its sh1t together. Aramoana is the only other NZ beachie ive seen that matches wainui, but its half as consistent

Yeah I'm here to erase all lids..ooooohhhh
i think too they have more of the types of waves you can start out on when you are young so it encourages surfing at a younger age therefore extending the time surfing alot most of the people starting out west seem to be older crew who have their own cars so at least 16 or so as i dont think too many parents would happily let their 10yo head down to piha on their own for a surf

Yeah! good point Jabes. I didn't start surfing properly until I had my restricted. Our school ripper had a farm that bordered a certain river mouth/reef set up. Hardly surprising really.
Down south though when I was a bit younger we all used to leave our boards at the surf club and scrounge rides where possible.

i cycle but not in a f@ggy way, great for your knees and back. Best thing is to cycle five km then run 10 km then ride back again. so ya warming up ya body, testing it then warming down again with the cycle back. Doing anything after that is a bonus. I am addicted to it.

when I lived in kawerau we used to camp at thornton to surf the next day, one time when I was 13/14 me and some mates decided to stay there for three days. all we had was sleeping bags surf gear and a fly tent. that first night was sick surfed till it got dark and then made a fire and yarned. some others turned up with booze and weed so then we got wasted. It was mean, i only had two beers and half a j and I was in twighlight worlds. next day was flat and hot. we just sat around hungover and bored till the midddle of that night we said "fark it" and walked/hitched back home. sh1t was feral.
we drank from the river on the out going tide haha

So true... around here the beach is alittle to far and dangerous for the youngsters to bike too.
