I mean i know they're missing . The ones i know are missing in my current library i can find back on my E.HD. But i mean is there a simple way to do this. I could delete my current one and back it back from my lap t . But there is a good chance thad i be missing files as well . . . Guess i really all it want to do is find music files on my external which aren't in the library. Plus strangle the b!tch who helped me with my i tunes a fuk .

Took me a few mistakes before I worked out that one you import a music file from a folder, never move that folder.
itunes links itself to a music files folder.
If you have moved a music file that is linked to itunes, you will still have the origional file but it will show up missing in the itunes program.

Unless your music files on the External HDD are in MP3 format, you won't be able to import them into iTunes like stake has mentioned.

This is one of the reasons why iTunes sucks. There's no clear reason why it cannot play files from any location like these media players do: Windows Media Player, XBMC, WinAmp, VLC, etc.

And iTunes 11 is FUGLY.

They are in I tunes in my Ext hd. Any difference? In mp3 form.

Take . "you import a music file from a folder, never move that folder." I don't recognize what you're saying..

If i first back up then i'm exporting to the ext .hard disk if i want to move files back then i'm importing but that's as far as i get it. . I don't understand the moving folders .. as far as i know i'm leaving the folders in place.

Am i miss reading something. .

But i don't know where they are, i'd have to cross reference everything plus use spotlight on my ext. hard disk to try and find files. . what i really need to do i think is find any missing tracks in my external " i tunes", in my External hard disk there and copy them to the I tunes In the external hard disk. anD THen copy those copy those tracks which are missing in my current library on my lap.

I am probably going to confuse you even more.

I have one folder which is music.

All of my music is in there.

They are all MP3 but are in there individual folders.

I initially set my itunes up by importing the entire music folder which has all of the individual folders containing my mp3's in it.

itunes links itself to the main music folder and its contents. (never alter, rename or move anything in the music folder once it has imported all of the files). Once you move an mp3 or folder from within the music folder itunes will tell you the songs that are in the folder that has been altered or moved are missing.

When adding new music I make a new folder inside the music folder and copy the new mp3's to it, from there the easiest way is to drag and drop into itunes.

It works well for me and I can keep a tab on all of my music.

Take home message, never alter or move files if they are linked to itunes.

Agreed, itunes is a m0ngrel.

I run itunes 5, the updates are only improvements of restricting sharing music files and spy wear.

Move all of the MP3's in a folder to a new folder anywhere on your hard drive, then import into iTunes. It might be a tedious process, but it's the only way.

I've been a Mac man since '99. Back then everything used to work perfectly. Gradually over the years things have gotten more complicated and things don't seem to run as well as they used to.
