Now that i've broken Roy... I'll settle into a little holiday reading. just started "The Forgotten Soldier" by Guy Sajer... seem's ok so far, any recommendations for the next one...

The Best of Bogor by Burton Silver .. Kiwi Classic
And
The Fear of Freedom by Erich Fromm .. a bit dated (1942) but on the head of the nail a lot of the time in an epic way.
recommended reading Toaster, roy and robdrone

freedom is a seriously scary prospect, being brought up by my grandmother ( communist romantic ) who thinks everyone should be free and encouraged "free thinking" amongst my siblings and cousins. Free thinking required atheism, disgust at people who had money, poor people, people who lacked intelligence, sophistication and creativity.

She currently still hates mowri but has a Nga Puhi sticker on her car and once wrote a Maori-English dictionary

I know what freedom entails and I do not want anyone else to have it.

also for those tripping through Taranaki, I reccommmennd the story of Kimball Bent from radionz and The Parihaka Woman by Witi Ihimaera

Your grandma sounds like a (unt who by the sound of your description was about as free thinking as george bush, hitler, mother teresa, stalin and ron paul .
