Im still stuck on fellowship of the rings.. those big trees freaked me out.. i didn't advance..

read something about 48 frames a second the amount of detail and liveliness is supposed to be phenomenal.

Not sure if it was 48, I watched it on the IMAX so it was pretty dam big.. I guess 48, the visuals are awesome but I get that some may feel sick. In some scenes the camera moves to fast for the eye, like watching rugby on an LCD. PJ really does do a good job of bringing the book to life.

I am probably the biggest nerd on here yet I still haven't seen The Hobbit. Keen to see this movie next week!

FYI The Boss, since you saw the Imax version, you saw the normal 24fps version, not the High Frame Rate aka 48fps version.

At Maybe i did maybe i didnt. Ill have to compare though. Given what i saw then the 48 must be full on. Im not sure about 3d it looks like cardboard cut outs in some scenes.

watched the 3D 48fps version. It's a bit weird to start with as it's 'unfilmy' like we're used too. But the super (hyper real?) clarity and sharpness is gotten away with as the production level is so high. Any mistakes in costume/makeup/sfx would look godam awful at that level otherwise.
Hows the goblin king's chin sack - remind of you anyone on the forums?

I absolutely loved it! I was just simply floored in the same way that FOTR did 11 years ago.

The costume design, fight scenes, lighting, colours, camera angles, weapons...you name it - it was all top class stuff!

A few minor tidbits did annoy me that were different from the book but could've easily remained the same.

Best film of the year for me. But I'm a big, biased Tolkien fan so whatever. Mildly better than The Avengers, Batman Dark Knight Rises and Prometheus. What a great year for films 2012 has been.

What I thought the hobbit trumped those movies by heaps. The avengers was funny and great effects but... Dark night was awesome but... Prometheus was average, didn't like it the end was good, i get the whole story line beginning but on a whole average. The hobbit was more than I expected and I expected a lot. I agree with your comments around the hobbit tubenet, some changes were good some ehhh but I really liked the word for word dialogue in used.

Hobbit was awesome, i am a full on tolkien nerd, I reckon the differences in the story were due to Jackson drawing heavily on the appendices that came out later than the hobbit, I reckon he used these to flesh out the back story.

I liked the latest batman film but the ending and catwoman ruined it.

I think I will have to agree with you Boss after reading your post. I do think The Hobbit trumped all others this year.

And Pena, I would like to discuss the differences in the story but I don't want to spoil it for anyone.

I fell asleep at the start because I was over tired from all day sun at a quiet beach break that was impersonating Lower Trestles, fire going on the beach cooking bangers for the kids.
Looks like its repeat this Sunday. Gloating yes love this time of year.
So missed a bit at the start but enjoyed Ork chase, the goblin scene was something else and my favourite smeagle stood alone in his part.
Oh watched it in HFR 3D, best I have seen, some of the animations haven't reached that fluidity level yet but still get away with it.
