Thing that fukks me off about TM is you list a board for sale with a reserve and a buy now. Then you get 15 watchers, when the auction closes you make a fixed price offer and no one accepts.

WTF, did they think I was going to do? Give it away?

if your selling it you most likely need/want money. if you dont need the money then dont be surprised when no one buys your over priced surfboard.

i am looking for a good deal for myself. if i dont get the board it doesnt matter to me i wait for somethign else to come along and sooner or later somebody will sell for what im prepared to offer

Fair comment, but if you think it's over priced why bother watching in the hope it will be given away.?

You just offered the guy 300 for a stick with no fins.

I had listed a mint stick with fins, leggie and bag for $400....

My favourite with the shop are the guys who email saying I saw you listed your boards 3 or 4 times ill offer - half reserve and when we tell them no they would get all shirty about not accepting their generous offer 2 weeks later get an email asking if we still had it and getting to tell them it had been sold already!

Search "Aloha" in TM surfboards. It's the only one listed at present.

Your a self proclaimed business guru so tell me what happens when you sell something for under half your cost price? Yet for some reason most people who wouldn't ask the supermarket for a free bottle of milk when they buy a box of wheat bix think nothing of trying to get something that is hand crafted for nothing! Usually when you see their auctions they are the guys selling their 10yo boards for 550 as its still mint

The cost* price is not the sale** price either, if I'm following you correctly.

If I sell a board that I bought brand new I would expect some depreciation even if it had never been surfed. A used surfboard IMHO shouldn't exceed 50% of the original purchase price, with a few exceptions.

This is where you get it wrong though Jabes. Stocked goods on a shelf are an invitation to treat and do not constitute an offer, with some exceptions.

It is up to the buyer to provide an offer and for the vendor to accept or refuse.

No we are talking about new boards so basically a semi advert for new stock for people who are out of area. Tho we sell a few on these as well to people who can't come in. But its the people who have seen a new board that's been listed 3 times kindly offer to take it off our hands for 3-400 but then miss out. We have a regular few that try it

What a bargain that piece of history is!!

Trade me is good for a bit of a browse, good for the occasional deal.

I don't understand how the cheap imported boards make money for the seller though? Must land them here for like $300.

The mctavish boards are pretty pricey, is that a normal price to pay for a mctavish?

$28.05 success fee.

That's roughly 6.5%. Getting bloody expensive.

I don't do much trading so this really sticks in my craw when I do.

Maybe I should buy some TM shares and take a piece of that pie.

well written, been there done that first time auction had 22 watches no bids second time relisted 18 watches 2nd time i sold lower $ and sold wished for more but, buyer got a good deal in my reserve, should have stuck to 1st reserve.but wanted new board,so stung me a extra few dollars but, nothing like buying a car from say a car dealer and losing out a grand when you drive off from su,m random dealer in a yard sorta thing if that makes sense, hope work gives overtime to help pay for new stick grr

I actually don't know, I was just commenting on old schools random comparison. I kind of think in my option you get double taxed, you pay a listing fee and then a success fee. Why not one or the other. But having said that trademe have owned this market and they are a business.
