I guess you are this careful with all your purchases then, where do your shoes come from?

Anyway my nearest "local" shaper is about 1000km away I have 2 boards 1 made in Thailand, one made in China, the chinese one is sweet, solid PU lite and durable the thai one less so.

Are there any shoes made in NZ? Probably not. I surf local boards made for local conditions. I have tried pop outs. Glass jobs are sh!t ask any repairer.

Have tried epoxy (too corky) id rather support local craftsmanship and economy

Oh hang on.....i do own raglan leather jandels and boots

Be proud of where U are from and great board from the local reinforces that.

This is my opinion. No doubt pop out buyers will bring hate. They are angry because they know in right

3 boards - 2 X nz shapers Razor & JDub, 1 X longboard pop out i guess (it's hard to find out about it) all boards go great, but defo fav is the Razor. Nick'll be making my next one...brought the popout cos it was realtively cheap for a quality - ish longboard at 1k but f u c k paying 1400 for a surftech or a mctavish log out of a machine. Everyboard from this point on will be nz made

Ive got slightly different from the options

2x aussie shaper made board and another on its way
1x jdub local shaped
1x home made
recent sales are 1x nz and 1x oz

tho the fact all our glass and resin and blanks are also imported maybe nz finished is a better turn of phrase?

You mistake me for someone who gives a f*ck about what you say... you are a brainwashed shop wallah of no account, I'm just correcting the misinformation.

Basically the shop types like to find ways to blur the distinction between NZ made and imported so that they can sell more pop outs.

2020 prefers a handmade product all day everyday...whether local or from offshore- something thats been made with some care and attention, and bit of love as well.

My current board was made by a local shaper, sadly it was perfectly made to my exact requirements- rather than taking the good advice of the shaper- the result is a beautifully crafted board, which has the tempermantent of an Italian wife- often its sweet spot is best located in the shed...I tell this tale as a warning to others..

something to mention when (not) buying pop outs....they may look as if they have fcs fins and the shop may well say they are fcs fins but when you lose a fin and try to replace it with a fcs fin and you find out it doesn't fit you discover forgery fcs fins and boxes.....very annoying...

interesting! i assume the fins on tufflites are fcs's or are they 'replicas' hence the ill fitting? the hassles i've had with compatability and fin box size differences for both fcs and futures (dont get me started on the front / rear futures fin box depth difference aaarrrggghhh) I'm getting glass - ons next board...

Was at my local yesterday and saw a guy walking past with a Bear (all i saw was the logo from a distance) so I asked if it was one of Mickeys. He looked at me quizzicly like he had no idea what I was talking about and said,,"it's a bear" it was one of those surftech / tufflite / whatever pop outs. The guy, nice as he was, had no idea who Mickey was. I think the biggest issue is the surfboard consumers lack of knowledge of the local shaper scene, or they are of the type / generation who don't even care. It's a tough call, I do my best to namedrop local shapers but a lot of the buyers go with the hype i guess or buy popouts second hand. It's rare to see NZ shapes in the second hand racks, I wonder why? Maybe cos the owners are reluctant to sell em cos they are too good ? I reckon Hayden and Cain are making a good crack at fighting the tidal wave, making heaps of performance shortboards and getting em in the shops. Retailers also are a bit to blame, but must be hard for them when the groms and old farts mostly consitently bypass local made quality and go for the gsi b o l l o c k s or whatever big brand is currently trendy..
