Ex-pat Aussie and new Gisborne Boardriders club member, Ian Wolfe showed his skill to take out 1st place in the open division of the club's first contest of the year.

Sunny Brown showed he was in form for the upcoming NZ Scholastics Champs, placing 2nd in the Open final. Brown also took out the longboard final. Jayda Martin-Fitzharris secured bragging rights over dad, Michael Fitzharris, when she secured 3rd place in the Open final ahead of Fitzy.

Newcomer Blake Brown took out the competitive under 14 Division in tricky conditions. The Gisborne Scholastics Team members will be hoping Brown can continue his form in Taranaki this week, likewise for Kobe Johnson, who edged out Ben McCulloch for 2nd spot. Abby Falswaser-Logan managed 4th, but was impressive in dominating the early rounds and also making finals in the under 16 and Women divisions. Tom Dixon Smith and Reuben Mottart both surfed well and impressed. A number of new surfers in the U14 division braved some sizeable conditions - these included Kyle Hannah, Ethan and Sam Lepper, Josef and Ella Jungwirth.

Such is the strength of the Junior women's surfing currently that Jack Virtue was the lone male in the Under 16 final. Jack placed 2nd to Jasmine Smith. Dayna Story and Abby Falwasser-Logan were nipping at Jack's heels.

Jayda Martin-Fitzharris also outclassed her male counterparts in the Under 20 division. The Womens division was fiercely competed for, with the very experienced Martin-Fitzharris securing 1st place, but this time Dayna Story was able to turn the tables on Smith, to secure 2nd place.

The over 35 final had one score sheet calling it a draw between Gary Smith and Michael Fitzharris. But the overall win was awarded to Fitzy who managed first place despite having lost a fin early in the final which forced him to find lefthanders only. He did have four fins to start with however! In the over 50 division, multi national title holder and Gisborne Boardriders Hall of Fame recipient, John Gisby showed his consistency to take the win over Warwick "Spring" Thompson. Jim Milne and Don Pearson battled for the wooden spoon but had to settle for 3rd equal. The next club comp is scheduled for the 27th October.
